A Perfect Mystery (2012 Remaster) REDUX

thenewspaper The last caravan of pink rock, pink folk, busting into a new century. A busy album that obeys steady beats for live drumming; but zen joy collecting like light over the deep, dark seeds of the coming Kingsaver Plus era, with its new telecaster squire and equine-EQ, the thump of night horses. You can hear they choose to be happy even after a bunch of new zeroes failed to click off the dark ages. Reach out for the stoned walls and feel what color the room is! Favorite track: Condition Green.

RTW For me, this album is the last record of the greatest Dots era. It mostly repeats earlier strengths in terms of songs but the production is perhaps their all-time best, as everything is coated with a layer of fresh, thick sound. The pure pop of "When Lenny Meets Lorca" and "When I'm With You" were truly surprising at the time. The rest of the album falls back on the twin strengths of folk and prog to great effect, such as in "Lent," "Pain Bubbles," or "Godless." Favorite track: Pain Bubbles / Blue.

about

THE LEGENDARY PINK DOTS- A Perfect Mystery REDUX (2012 Remaster)

The year 2000

End of the second millennium and end of an era for The Dots. Ryan left after this album to focus on his excellent Twilight Circus Project while Frank Verschuuren departed for a career in the New World .
The final gasp of the Dots' "big" line-up lacks consistency .Some fine tracks that stand the test of time, but some regrets about not capturing the enormity of "Pain Bubbles " in the studio environment.Likewise "Lent" often sounded better live....but
perhaps that's inevitable. The extended LPDs line-up somehow delivered their best work on stage at this time.
Worth a listen is Premonition 25- in my humble opinion the best of this long running saga of dark epics.EK

Artwork here is from the hyper-limited vinyl version released by Beta-Lactam Ring Records.Nienke Poiesz is the creator.
